DES::RIJ?TION of EVENT On October 12,1980, with Unit No.2 at 100% p::iwer, Charging Pump Service Water Pump 2-SW-P-lOA develope:3. a low discharge pressure of 10 PSIG.

The red.L11d.an.t service water p.Jmp started and returned systen pressure to normal.

This event is contrary to Technical Specification 3.3.A.8.b.

and is rep::irtable per Technical S:p2cification 6.6.2.b.(2).

PROBABLE CONSEQJENCES and STATUS of REDUNDANT E(PIP.MSNT

C..Z>,.USE The Charging Pump Service Water Subsystem provides cooling for the charging p.m1p lube oil and i..'l.tennediate seal coolers.

'Ihe redundant p.Jmp, 2-SW-P-lOB, was operable and performed it's,.intended function.

'Therefore the health and safety of the pJ.blic were not affected.

The cause of the low discharge pressure was an eel lodged in the pump' s impeller.

Il-1MEDIATE CORRECTIVE ACTION The redundant p.m1p, 2-S"w-P-lOB, was verified operating and suppling t.11.e required pressure.

• SUBSEQJENI' CORRECTIVE ACTION.

Service Water Pump, 2-SW-P-lOA, was disasse:nbled and t.11.e eel rEITOved from the pu..rnp' s impeller.

The µnnp was subsequently proven operable.

ACTIONS TAKEN TO PREVENT REOCCURRENCE A design change is in progress, as a result of the pipe stress analysis program, which will improve the filtration capabilities of the system.

GENERIC IMPLICATIONS The disign change will address both units.
