Dear Mr. Ferguson:

\\tJe requested by -letter dated April 16; 1979 that you submit your modification plan and testing program for correcting the reported und~rpower capacity conditions on the Surry Power Station, Units l and 2 480V emergency liuses_.

In response to your submittals dated May 3 and June 18~ 1979, we issued a Safety Evaluation Report on *August 2011 1979 for Unit l which concluded that the modification insures the capability of the_ 480V Class lE System

  • -to meet -its saf_ety functions and was acceptable.

On May 22, 198011 you provided a report on the modifications for Unit 2 and stated that an integrated Engineered Safeguards Features test.has been successfully performed which verified the proper-sizing and loading of the new 480V load center.

We *have reviewed your May 22, 1980 report and conclude that, *since the modifications to Unit 2' are similar to Unit l, our Safety Evaluation.

Report of Augu~t 20, 1979, for the Unit 1 modifications equally applies to the Unit 2 modifications.

Therefore, we concJude tha:t the Unit 2 modifi-

Dear Mr. Ferguson:

June 20, 1980 We requested by letter dated April 16, 1979 that you submit your modification plan and testing program for correcting the reported underpower capacity conditions on the Surry Power Station, Units 1 and 2 480V emergency buses.

In response to your submittals dated May 3 and June 18, 1979, we issu.ed a Safety Evaluation Report on August 20, 1979 for Unit l which concluded that the modification insures the capability of the 480V Class lE System to rreet its safety functions and was acceptable.

On May 22, 1980, you provided a report on the modifications for Unit 2 and stated that an integrated Engineered Safeguards Features test has been successfully performed which verified the proper sizing and loading of th*e new 480V load center.

We have reviewed your May 22, 1980 report and conclude that, since the modifications to Unit 2 are similar to Unit 1, our Safety Evaluation Report of August 20, 1979, for the Unit 1 modifications equally applies to the Unit 2 modifications. Therefore, we conclude that the Unit 2 modifi-cations are acceptable.
