Geosciences Branch - Geolo We agree that the evidence supports your conclusion that the schistose zone at station 2+50 of the diversion conduit excava-tion resulted from deformation which occurred over 225 million years ago.

However, sufficient data have not been provided to support your further conclusion that these zones cannot be described as capable faults.

In particular, the schistone zone-granite contact at station 2+55. is mapped as a planar contact'hich strongly suggests a fault contact due to possible reacti-vated movement along this zone.

In order to better identify and date the planar feature provide information which demonstrates that no movement has occurred along this contact or if offset has occurred, demonstrate its age of last movement.

At a minimum, provide data such as a thin-section study across the planar contact which identifies key minerals, their time of deposition, and their last period of deformation.

In addi tion, a'fold analysis across the planar contact would be extremely useful in making such a demonstration.
