SUBJECT:
ELECTRICAL DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM FUNCTIONAL INSPECTION (EDSFI) FOR SALEM, UNITS 1 AND 2 This letter confirms the dates of August 16-20, 1993, and August 30 - September 3, 1993, for a partial EDSFI at Salem, Units 1 and 2. A partial EDSFI is being conducted because of a previous electrical inspection conducted by the NRC Region I staff in November 1987, and a self-conducted EDSFI completed by PSE&G in September 1992. Our plans for this inspection were discussed with your staff during a telephone call between Messrs. Frank Thomson and Brian Thomas of your organiz.ation and Mr. Leonard Cheung of the NRC Region I office. The inspection will take place at the_ Salem plant site.
A management entrance meeting is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on August 16, 1993, at the plant site in Hancocks Bridge, New Jersey. The management exit meeting is also tentatively scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on September 3, 1993, also at the plant site; The purpose of this inspection is to determine whether the electrical distribution* systems (EDS) at Salem Units 1 and 2 are capable of performing their intended functions as designed, installed, and configured during all plant operating and accident conditions. Your self-conducted EDSFI will be used as a reference in this inspection.
To support the scope of the inspection, we request that you provide us at least two copies of the documents identified in the enclosure by August 2, 1993, to be picked up by Mr. Leonard Cheung at the inspection site. We also request that PSE&G be prepared. tO provide, on August 16, 1993, following the entrance meeting, a brief presentation to the inspection team, which addresses the design of the station electrical distribution system and associated support systems, and the self-conducted EDSFI.
