Docket Nos. 50-272

50-311

Public Service Electric & Gas Company

ATTN~ Mr. Steven E. Miltenberger

JlJL l 9 1991

Vice President and Chief Nuclear Officer

Post Office Box 236

Hancocks Bridge, New Jersey 08038

Dear Mr. Miltenberger:

Subject: Combined Inspection Nos. 50-272/91-20 and 50-311/91-20

This letter refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Dr. J. Jang

of this office on July 8-12, 1991 of activities authorized by NRC License Nos.

DPR-70 and DPR-75, and to the discussions of our findings held by Dr. Jang

with Mr. C. Vondra and other members of your staff at the conclusion of the

inspection.

Areas examined during this inspection are described in the NRC Region I

Inspection Report which is enclosed with this letter. Within these areas, the

inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures and

representative records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the

inspector.

Within the scope of this inspection, very good routine radioactive gaseous and

liquid effluent control programs were implemented by the Chemistry Department.

However, we were unable to close during this inspection two unresolved items

which were identified in 1989.

These two unresolved items are listed in your

"Salem Revitalization" program as described in Section 3.0 of this inspection

report.

Your attention and support are needed to resolve these items.

No

violations were identified during this inspection.

No reply to this letter is required.

Your cooperation with us in this matter

is appreciated.

Sincerely,

(
