Gentlemen:

Subject:

NRC Inspection Nos. 50-272/90-19; 50-311/90-19; 50-354/90-14

This letter transmits the findings of the routine, resident safety

inspection conducted by Mr. Thomas P. Johnson and others from June 19,

1990 to August 15, 1990, at the Salem and Hope Creek Nuclear

Generating Stations.

The findings were discussed with Mr. V. J.

Polizzi and Mr. J. J. Hagan of your staff.

Within the scope of this inspection, the inspectors did not find any

violations.

However, the inspectors noted weaknesses in the

administrative controls and guidance for voluntary entries into

Technical Specification 3.0.3 for both Hope Creek and Salem stations.

The letter also acknowledges receipt of your July 10, 1990 response to

a Salem violation cited in the NRC lnspection Report 50-272/90-12;

50-311/90-12.

Those corrective actions appear to be acceptable.

They

will be inspected in a future report.

No reply to this letter is required.

Your cooperation with us is

appreciated.
