identified:
inspection conducted on April 15 -
20, 1987 and in 11Genera l Statement of Policy and Procedure for NRC 10 CFR 2, Appendix C, The following violation was 10 CFR 50, Appendix B, Criterion XIII states in part:
11Measures shall be established to control the handling, storage, shipping, cleaning and preser-vation of material and equipment in accordance with work and inspection instructions to prevent damage or deterioration..*

- Salem Gene~ating Station, Maintenance Procedure MP3.5, paragraph 9.1. requires:
"Rotate the shaft of each motor a minimum of 10 revolutions to coat bearing journals.
Ensure that the shaft comes to rest in a position other than that from which it started.

- states 11 Use this data sheet during performance of monthly shaft rotations except when also performing the megger test and lubrications. 11 Paragraph 9.2 of Maintenance Procedure MP3.5 further states:
11 Insulation resistance tests and polarization index calculations should be performed semiannually, during the months of January and July. Use a motor driven megger.
Record the data on enclosure 3 of this procedure. 11 Contrary to the above, as of April 20, 1987, there were no comp 1 eted data sheets for the monthly shaft rotation and semiannual insulati.on tests and polarization index calculations for the following motors between June 13, 1986 and March 4, 1987.

Pursuant to the prov1s1ons bf 10CFR2.201, Public Service Electric and Gas is hereby required to submit to this office within thirty days of the date of the letter which transmitted this Notice a written statement or explanation in reply, including: (1) the corrective steps which have been taken and the results achieved; (2) corrective steps that will be taken to avoid further violations; and (3) the date when full compliance will be achieved.
Where good cause is shown, consideration will be given to extending this response time.
