AUG 18 19S~

This refers to the meeting held at the Salem Nuclear Generating Station, Hancock 1s Bridge, New Jersey on August 15, 1983, between you and members of your staff and Dr. R. Bellamy, Chief, Radiological Protection Branch and other members of the NRC Region I staff. This meeting was held at our request to discuss the findings of a July, 1983 Radiation Protection inspection by Region I staff at the Salem Station.

As a result of the discussions at this meeting, it is our understanding that the following actions will be taken:

1.

Administrative Procedure AP-2 will be revised by December 1, 1983, to reflect the current station organization and operations.

2.

Administrative Procedure AP-7 will be established and implemented by January 19, 1984.

This procedure will formally establish the ALARA Program.

3.

A corrective action system will be established and implemented by October 1, 1983, to follow the resolution of audit deficiences identified by the Corporate Radiation Protection Services Group.

4.

The backlog of procedure revisions, and new procedures, which have not been reviewed by the In-Plant Radiation Protection Organization, will be reviewed by appropriate members of your organization by September 30, 1983.

This review will include Procedure RP 8.015 which has been revised to provide a means to timely assess airborne radioactivity. This will complete the corrective actions described in your August 4, 1983 letter to this office.
