Dear Mr. Uderitz:
By letter dated September 20, 1982 you requested that a restriction on the operation of Sal em Units 1 and 2 be removed.
This restriction pertains to the control and insertion of rods in the reactors of these units.
Your request was based on information from Westinghouse relating to discussions between Westinghouse and the NRC staff.
Westinghouse met with the staff in August 1981 and submitted a report on the subject of dropped rods in January 1982.
This report is under review by the staff and scheduled to be corri!Dlete at the end of 1982.
Until the review is completed and the report approved the Salem units are expected to continue with the interim operating restrictions.
