Paragraph 2.C(l1) of Facility Operating License DPR-75 for Salem Unit 2 requires PSE&G to 11 *** demonstrate to the satisfaction of the NRC that the present containment isolation provisions for the main feedwater lines comply with the requirements of General Design Criterion 57 under all postulated acci-dent conditions, or propose a design change that wil 1 achieve compliance
- 11 By letter dated August 18, 1981, you proposed to provide remote manual containment isolation capability for the main feedwater lines, by either (1) modifying the existing stop check valves to include remote operators; or (2) adding new air/electric operated valves to the system.
We have reviewed your proposal and conclude that either approach will satisfy the requirements as stated in Supplement No. 5 to the Salem Safety Evaluation Report and, therefore, is acceptable. Your schedule for implementing this design change during the first refueling outage of Unit~2 is consistent with the requirements in paragraph 2~C(ll) of Facility Operating License DPR-75.
