CONFIRMATION OF EMPLOYEE QUALIFICATIONS In recent months, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has determined that in two unrelated actions a utility and an architect-engineering company employed technically unqua.lified individuals as designers/engineers by failing-to confirm the validity or their technical and educational qualifications as presented in their employment applications.
In both of these instances, the employers mistakenly assumed that the personnel firms supplyi.ng these individuals had investigated and confirmed previous career experiences.
In view of the fact that the unqualified persons in both of these cases were discovered as a result of allegations to this effect, rather than through internal company procedures, we believe that this matter warrants your attentii:>n.
We are hereby recommending that your employment procedu_res be reviewed to determine that your company has in effect employment policies which confirm
_ the professional qua 1 i fi cat ions of employees.
In the event you cone l ude that your present procedures do not fully address this matter, we recommend that you take prompt remedial action in this regard.
