PALISADES PLANT - CORRECTION TO LETTER TRANSMITTING SAFETY EVALUATION OF INSERVICE INSPECTION PROGRAM RELIEF REQUESTS FOR SNUBBER INSPECTIONS (TAC NO. 94524)
Dear Mr. Berdine:
By letter dated. June 28, 1996, the NRC issued a safety evaluation authorizing the use of Consumers Power Company's (CPCo) proposed alternative to the inservice inspection (ISi) requirements for snubber visual inspections. In a telephone conversation on May 28, 1997, Phil Flenner of your staff identified that our June 28, 1996, letter stated that the_
relief request applied to the Palisades Plant Second 10-Year Interval ISi Program Plan, whereas the request actually applied to the Third 10-Year Interval ISi Program Plan.
The staff safety evaluation enclosed with our June 28, 1996, letter stated that the CPCo ISi program is based on the requirements of the 1989 Edition of Section XI of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code. This is the Code Edition on which the Palisades Plant Third 10-Year Interval ISi Program Plan is based. Our letter transmitting the safety evaluation should have referenced Palisades Plant, Third 10-Year ISi Program Plan and not the Second 10-Year Plan. We apologize for any inconvenience this error may have caused.
