Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555 DOCKET 50-255 - LICENSE DPR PALISADES PLANT KurtM. Haas Plant Safety and Licensing Director REPLACEMENT OF THE CRITICAL FUNCTIONS MONITORING SYSTEM COMPUTER In our letter dated February 13, 1995, we informed the NRC of our plans for the on-line replacement of our Critical Functions Monitoring System (CFMS) computer.

The Palisades CFMS was installed to meet NUREG 0737, "Clarification of TMl Action Plan Requirements" Item I.D.2 requirements for the Plant Safety Parameter Display System (SPDS).

Later, the CFMS was used to provide the inputs for the Emergency Response Datalink System (EROS).

Replacement of the CFMS computer with the pl ant on line wi 11, therefore, result i.n some temporary inoperability of the SPDS and EROS systems.

Our February 13, 1995 letter to the NRC stated that we estimated that the SPDS would be out of service for no longer than one week and the EROS out of service for no longer than three weeks.

We also stated in that letter that we would notify the NRC approximately one week prior to the replacement of the CFMS computer.

The purpose of this letter is to notify the NRC that the Palisades CFMS computer wil 1 be rep 1 aced during the week beginning May 8, 1995.

The SPDS function is expected to be unavailable to the control room, technical support center and emergency operations facility for approximately two days within the first week that the CFMS is replaced.

In the event that a problem is discovered that prevents the new system from performing the SPDS function, the old system will be maintained in a ready state to be reconnected.

The EROS will be unavailable for one to three weeks beginning with the CFMS replacementh _
