KurtM. Haas Planr Safety and Licensing Director ADDITIONAL PLANNED ACTION IN RESPONSE TO NOTICE OF VIOLATION ON THE FAILURE TO PREVENT DEGRADED PERFORMANCE OF EMERGENCY DIESEL GENERATORS NRC Inspection Report No. 94017, dated October 27, 1994, documented the results of an inspection that reviewed the inability of both Emergency Diesel Generators (EDGs) to supply maximum design basis accident electrical loads.
In its reply to the Notice of Violation on January 11, 1995, CPCo detailed several corrective actions designed to improve EOG testing. The reply stated that the monthly EOG surveillance tests had been revised to include a periodic short verification of EOG capability to carry peak accident loads.
In addition, in preparation for the upcoming refueling outage, we are revising the refueling EOG surveillance tests to include full-duration peak load verification testing.
The reply did not specifically identify our plans for formalizing peak load testing requirements in Technical Specifications.
We will be proposing a change to Technical Specification Section 4.7, "Emergency Power System Periodic Tests" to require periodic load testing of the EDGs at the maximum design basis accident electrical loading.
The Technical Specification Change Request is currently being developed.
It will be submitted to the NRC by approximately April 30, 1995.
