Rogers Plant Safety and Licensing Director DOCKET 50-255 - LICENSE DPR PALISADES PLANT - RESPONSE TO REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING THE RECENT PRESSURIZER SAFE END CRACK TO SUPPORT THE BROOKHAVEN ANALYSIS - SKETCH OF WELD REPAIR (TAC No. 87760)

An NRC letter, dated October 8, 1993, requested additional information concerning the recent pressurizer safe end crack.

Our letter, dated October 20, 1993, provided responses to five of the six requests for information contained in the October 8, 1993 letter. The sixth request was to provide a dimensional sketch showing the location of the weld repair relative to the locations of the crack and lack of fusion and also showing all locations of lack of fusion.

The attachment to this letter contains the requested sketch.

It, however, does not show all locations of non-fusion.

It is not possible to show all locations without further cross sectioning of the samples that are now at Brookhaven.

As requested in the October 8, 1993 NRC letter, a copy of this information has been sent directly to Mr. Carl Czajkowski at the Brookhaven National Lab.

The attached sketch is intended to depict the weld repair locations relative to the location to the safe end crack and the known non-fusion area that exists in the safe end weld.

The weld repair is identified on the cross section view on the insi~e diameter.

The crack is depicted to the right of the weld.

The non-fusion area is shown in the weld area.
