  • Docket No. 50-255 Serial No. PAL-89-019 Mr. Kenneth W. Berry Director, Nuclear Licensing Consumers Power Company 1945 West Parnall Road Jackson, Michigan 49201

Dear Mr. Berry:

SUBJECT:

REACTOR COOLANT PUMP TRIP {TAC NO. 49700)

The staff has approved, in Generic Letter 86-06, the Combustion Engineering Owners Group (CEOG) methodology for the Reactor Coolant Pump Trip issue as defined in TMI Action Plan Item II.K.3.5. This approval was conditioned upon each licensee addressing plant-specific information.

Our review of the Palisades plant-specific information has progressed sufficiently for us to conclude that using the CEOG methodology has significantly improved reactor safety, and there are no remaining major safety-significant concerns for plant-specific information related to this issue.

Accordingly, we have completed our review of your Reactor Coolant Pump Trip set point development and find it acceptable.

Please be advised that the implementation of actions related to this issue may be subject to on-site verification.
