Dear Dr. Kim:
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff is preparing a safety evaluation (SE) with no open items (OIs) for each chapter of Revision 2 to the Advanced Power Reactor 1400 Design Certification Application, submitted by Korea Electric Power Corporation and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., Ltd. (KHNP) on March 8, 2018.
The staffs SE with no OIs for Chapter 14, Section 14.3, Inspections, Tests, Analyses, and Acceptance Criteria (ITAAC), (except for Section 14.3.2, Structural and Systems Engineering) is being provided to the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) Subcommittee to support an upcoming meeting of the ACRS Subcommittee scheduled to be held on June 19, 2018. For this SE the staffs review was based on Revision 1 of the application because staff issued a request for additional information (RAI) on March 15, 2018 covering all of the ITAAC tables and Tier 1 Section 1 of the design certification application. This RAI was based on Revision 1 of the application.
The enclosed SE with no OIs is being provided to KHNP for review of proprietary information pursuant to the Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations 2.390, Public Inspections, Exemptions, Requests for Withholding. The staff concludes that the enclosed SE does not contain any information for which exemption from public disclosure has been sought or approved; however, the NRC will withhold the enclosed SE from public disclosure for ten business days from the date of this letter to allow you the opportunity to verify the staffs conclusion that the SE contains no exempt information or factual errors.
Document transmitted herewith contains sensitive unclassified information. When separated from the enclosure, this document is DECONTROLLED.
