ENVIRONMENTAL QUALIFICATION OF ELECTRIC EQUIPMENT IMPORTANT TO SAFETY.
Re:
Palisades Nuclear Plant The enclosP.d Safety Evaluation (SE) addresses the environmental qualification of electric equipment important to safety for Palisades for compliance with the requirements of 10 CFR 50.49, your proposed resolutions for the deficiencies identified in the SE dated April 25, 1983, and the December 30, 1982 Franklin Research Center (FRC) Technical Evaluation Report (TER) enclosed with it, and justification for continued operation for those equipment items not yet fully qualified
- On January 10, 1984, a meeting was held with the Consumers Power Company to discuss its proposed method of resolution for each of the environmental qualification deficiencies identified. Discussions also included Consumers Power's general methodology for compliance with 1.0 CFR 50.49, "Environmental Qualification of Electric Equipment Important to Safety for Nuclear Power Plants," which became effective February 22, 1983, and justification for continued operation (JCO) for those equipment items for which environmental qualification is not yet completed.
You provided submittals, by letters dated February 14 and June 15, 1984 addressing the above subjects and documenting the discussions held at the meeting. Additional information regarding the justification for continued operation was provided in your letter dated January 15, 1985.

January 31, 1985 Based on discussions during the meeting and the results of our review of your February,-i4 and J"u'ne 15, 1984, and January 15, 1985 submittals, we have concluded that Consumers Power's Equipment Qualification Program is in compliance with the requirements of 10 CFR 50.49, that the proposed resolution for each of the environmental qualification deficiencies identified for Pa~isades is acceptabl~, and that continued operation of Palisades will not present undue risk to' the public health and safety.
