--~ - --r-REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION III.4.C Internally Generated Missiles(lnslde.COTJ'.(a:~wment)
The analysis of internally genefat~d mi~siles (inside containment) pres~nted in _the FSAR is incomplete.
The intent of the following requests is to obtain existing fnf~rmation and analyses.
It may be possible to alleviate stime of the concerns with a minimum of additional effort (e.g., determination of limiting ~quipment sizes below which there is not enough energy to generate a credible miss-ile).
In such cases, we would like to have this informatio~ to be included for our SER; however, these requests do not require you to perform additional analyses.
Provide the following information:
- a.
The Palisades fSAR only addresses potential sources of missiles from the high~pressure equipment.
Provide a discussion of how gravity missiles (e.g., vess.el refueling seal ring), secondary missiles (which could result from the impact made by primary missiles), and missiles of rotating machinery have been considered in the selection of potential missile sources.
/
- b.
Provide a tabulation to identify each of the potential
~issile sources, missile characteristics (velocity, diameter and weight), thickness of concrete to prevent spalling, thickness of steel to prevent penetration and the descrip~
tion of the mfssile shield provided for each potential missile target.
- c.
For the essent_ial areas where no missile barriers are prov, ided, discus-s the basis for a conclusion that missile protection is n6t required.

- 1. Provide a description of your final design for the long-tenn coo11n.g mode and P & IDs for the new system.
