OF THE NUCLEAR PERFORMANCE PLAN -
BROHNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT, UNIT, 2 (TAC 62263)
Section III.7.0 (Intergrannular Stress Corrosion Cracking) of Volume 3 of the Browns Ferry Nuclear Performance Plan identified Tennessee Valley Authority's (TVA) plan for controlling and mitigating the effects of intergranular stress corrosion cracking
( IGSCC) for Br owns Ferry, Unit 2.
The staff has completed the evaluation of the proposed Browns Ferry IGSCC-program for controlling the occurrence of IGSCC at Browns Ferry, Unit 2.
The staff concludes that this program adequately addresses the important aspects of controlling the occurrence of known IGSCC at Browns Ferry, Unit 2.
The staff has pointed out by letter dated December 8, 1988 that TVA should complete inspection of certain induction heating stress improvement treated welds prior to restar t.
Completion of these inspections will demonstrate that there are no significant IGSCC flaws present in these welds.
Our Safety Evaluation supporting the above conclusions is enclosed.
