Dear Mr. White:
SUBJECT:
VOLUME 3, SECTION III.1.0 (ENVIRONMENTAL QUALIFICATION OF ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT)
OF THE NUCLEAR PERFORMANCE PLAN-BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT, UNIT 2 (TAC NO. 62257)
Section III.1.0 of Volume 3 of the Nuclear Performance Plan for the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant (Unit 2) specifically responded to the NRC concerns of September 17, 1985 pertaining to compliance with 10 CFR 50.49 and the environmental qualification of electrical equipment at Brown Ferry.
The staff has completed its evaluation of the environmental qualification (EQ) program for electrical equipment located in harsh environments and concludes that it complies with the requirements of 10 CFR 50.49.
Full implementation of the program is pending completion of certain activities such as equipment replacement, modification, engineering
- analyses, and documentation.
As a confirmatory item, prior to restart of Unit 2, you will be required to certify to the NRC that the 10 CFR 50.49 list is complete and all electrical equipment within the scope of 10 CFR 50.49 is qualified to the requirements of 10 CFR 50.49.
We will continue to monitor implementation of the Browns Ferry EQ program and procedures through future inspections.
If you have any questions concerning the above, please call the Browns Ferry Project Manager, Gerald Gears, at 301-492-0767.
The reporting and/or recordkeeping requirements contained in this letter affect fewer than ten respondents; therefore, OMB clearance is not required.
