TENNESSEE VALLEYAUTHORITY CHATTANOOGA. TENNESSEE S7401 400 Chestnut Street Tower II December 17, 1984

'I Mr. Harold,R. Denton, Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555

Dear Mr. Denton:

In the Matter of the Tennessee Valley Authority Docket Nos. 50-259 50-260 50-296 Please refer to L. M. Mills'etter to J.

P. O'Reilly dated October 1,

1981, which provided TVA's response to IE Bulletin 80-11, Masonry Walls, for our Browns Ferr y Nuclear Plant.

As the result of the review of a Nonconformance Report (NCR) seven additional walls have been identified which will require modification to withstand a design basis tornado depressurization event.

These walls are identified as follows:

unit 1, walls 9 and 22; unit 2, wall 48; and unit 3, walls 1, 69, 80, and 90.

These walls will be modified in accordance with the Integrated Schedule for'IE 80-11 with the exception of unit 2 wall 48.

The modification to this wall could be delayed until the unit 2 cycle 6 outage due to engineering work.

Until these walls are modified, the current compensatory measure Tornado Procedure will remain in effect.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with us through the Browns Ferry Project Manager.

Very truly yours, TENNESSEE VAL Y AUTHORITY Subscribe ping sworn to before me t is
