Dear Mr. Denton:
Carolina Power R Light Company (CPRL) hereby submits additional information concerning ElectricaI Separation Verification Testing for the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant (SHNPP).
This information is submitted to support the SHNPP compliance with Regulatory Guide 1.75, Revision 1 "Physical Independence of Electrical Systems,"
and with 5.1.1.2 of IEEE Standard 380-(970, "IEEE Trial Use Criteria for Separation of Class lE Equipment and Circuits," which allows the use of testing to justify separation of less than the spatial requirements of Section 5.1.3. and 5.1.0. of IEEE Standard 380-1970.
Attached is Wyle Test Report No. 07879-06 (Attachment
- 1) which describes the testing and provides test results which support the reduced separation distances shown in the revised FSAR pages of Attachment 2.
In addition, the revised FSAR pages of Attachment 2 defines acceptable barriers which willbe installed where the deftned spatial distances can not be maintained.
The minimum separation distances based on Wyle test results are detailed in the revised FSAR pages.
In accordance with the provisions of Section 5.1.1.2 of IEEE Standard 830-1970, CPl'.t:L willuse these separation distances to resolve existing separation issues and in future design and installation at SHNPP.
FSAR Section 8.3 willbe revised after fuel load to reflect the changes shown in Attachment 2. Your formal concurrence is requested as soon as possible as CPRL has implemented this criteria on an interim basis pending your formal approval.
