1 - DOCKET NO.50-000 EMERGENCY DIESEL GENERATORS, MAINTENANCEAND SURVEILLANCE
Dear Mr. Denton:
Carolina Power R Light Company (CPRL) has been a member of the TDI Diesel Generator Owners Group (OG) since its inception. Accordingly, when the OG issued the site specific Design Review/Quality Revalidation (DR/QR) Report applicable to the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant (SHNPP) Emergency Die'sel Generators, CPRL forwarded this report to the NRC in a letter dated December 20, 1980 (NLS-80-090). Revision 1 to the DR/QR Report was transmitted to the NRC in a letter dated May 13, 1985 (NLS-85-100).
In late 1985, at the request of the NRC, the OG began a program to review the diesel enerator maintenance and surveillance (M/S) recommendations for this equipment as iscussed in the DR/QR Report, Revision 1, and to develop, to the extent possible, a generic set of M/S recommendations.
During this program, meetings were held with NRC representatives to assure that your staff was aware of changes being considered.
An informational copy of the results of this OG M/S Program was provided to you in a May 1, 1986 letter from Mr. 3. B. Georges, Chairman of the TDI OG.
As a result of the TDI OG M/S Program, Revision 2 to the SHNPP DR/QR Report has been issued.
Attached is this revision wTiich consists of a new Appendix II to Volume ii for the SHNPP DR/QR Report.
In previous submittals, CPRL has taken exception to some of the TDI OG M/S recommendations.
However, in light of the revisions made by the OG, CPRL commits to implement the OG M/S recommendations as identified by Revision 2 to the DR/QR Report.
