Dear Mr. Denton:
In a letter dated December 20, 1980+erial No. NLS-80-090), Carolina Power,"~!t: Light Company (CPttt:L) submitted the TDI Cgvners'roup (OG) Phase II DR/QR Report for the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant (SHNPP) emergency diesel generators.
The, SHNPP DR/QR Report was recently revised by the OG.
Enclosed in Attachment A is Revision 1
to the subject report.
Revision 1 makes editorial corrections and updates pertinent Phase I results that have been revised since the initial issuance of the DR/QR Report.
Attachment A to CPRL's December 20, 1980 letter. summarized the status of the SHNPP diesel generators and CPRL's plan fqL. placing the equipment into operation..With the issuance of Revision 1, the Compag would like to also revise Section E and F of Attachment A. Attachment B to this letter provides revised Section E and F pages.
Carolina Power i': Light Company has been an active member in the OG and commits to implement the DR/QR report requirements necessary to assure the safe and reliable operation of the diesel generators.
Deviations from the DR/QR report willbe justified and supporting documentation willbe available at the plant site for review.
The Company is proceeding with the construction/modification work and anticipates operating one of the two engines in the end of the month of July. The implementation of the DR/QR requirements will provide assurance that the SHNPP diesel generators are capable of reliably performing their intended safety function.
In addition, previous testing of the Catawba and Commanche Peak diesel generators have demonstrated the adequacy of the equipment/system design.
Based on CPRL's implementation of the OG program and the successful lead engine
- testing, CPRL does not anticipate making additional submittals on the SHNPP diesel generators and considers the issue resolved.
