DOCKET NO. 50-400 EQUIPMENT QUALIFICATION PROGRAM
Dear Mr. Denton:
In response to a question by Mr. A. S. Masciantonio (NRC-EQB) during his site inspection of August 9 and 10, 1984, Carolina Power 6 Light Company (CP&L) submitted information on the Rockbestos cable used at Shearon Harris.
Since Rockbestos is a sub-vendor and does not supply cable directly to CP6L, we decided to contact the vendors who supplied the equipment which use these cables to further verify the adequacy of our response.
This has brought to our attention a discrepancy in what we reported earlier based on the Rockbestos transmitted cable specification sheets.
These cable specification sheets were transmitted to you in our July 25, 1984 submittal.
Based upon this further review, we have verified, either in the field or at the vendor's location, that the insulation type we presently have is type LD, not type LE.
This reinforces our statements concerning the applicability of Rockbestos Report No.
2806 to Shearon Harris.
With this latest 'development, we can still say our cable is essentially identical in construction and
- material, up to and including the first layer of insulation, to the cable tested in the report.
The major difference is the insulation thickness, which is not a concern here since the cable tested has the smallest thickness.
Therefore, the cables are qualified using the Rockbestos Report No. 2806.
