Carolina Power

& Light Company (CP8L) hereby transmits"three (3) originals and sixty (60) copies of Amendment 9 to the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant (SHNPP) Final Safety Analysis Report (FSAR).

This information is being submitted in response to discussions held at 'the Instrumentation and Control Systems Branch (ICSB) meetings of August 16-19, 1982 and September 1ti-16, 1982 and the Mechanical Engineering Branch (MEB) meeting of February 1-3, 1983.

Commitments from the ICSB and MEB meetings are documented in CP&L letters dated September 30, 1982 and March 16, 1983.

In order to facilitate NRC staff review of this Amendment, a table is provided as Attachment 1.

This table lists the Safety Review Question (SRQ) number (where applicable),

the CP&L Draft Safety Evaluation Report (DSER)

Open Item number (where applicable),

and the FSAR Sections amended.

Except for corrections of minor typographical errors, this table contains all changes made in this Amendment.

Additionally, Sections 2.5E and 2.5F of the FSAR have been replaced by the permanently bound final reports entitled "Final Geologic Report on Foundation Conditions Power Plant,

Dams, and Related Structures" and "Final Embankment Report Main Dam, Auxiliary Dam, and Auxiliary Separating Dike,"

and this is reflected in the Amendment instruction sheets.

These final reports are being sent to you under separate cover.

Each revised page bears the amendment number.

Only those changes which are technical in nature are indicated by vertical bars.

Instructions for entering the revised pages are included.
