OPEN ITEM NO.
8 (DSER SECTION 2.3. 1, PAGE 2-12)
Whether the safety-related structures are capable of resisting the dead-load combination of the 100-year snowpack and PMWP, or whether such a
combination is meteorologically reasonable, has not been determined.
The staff will question the applicant regarding whether structural design bases accommodate such a loading condition.
RESPONSE
TO OPEN ITEM NO.
8 The floors of the unroofed areas of the Tank Building and the roofs of other safety-related structures where water due to probable maximum winter precipitation (PMlP) can accumulate, are structurally capable of withstanding the loading due to PMWP and 12 lbs/ft (snowpack load), in combination with the dead-loads defined in Sections 3.8. 1.3. 1 and 3.8.4.3.
1 of the FSAR.
Also see response to NRC Question 240.7 (submitted in our letter dated November 4,
1982).

OPEN ITEM NO.
9 (DSER SECTION 2.3. 1, PAGE 2-13)
The staff questions whether Seismic Category I structures are designed (operating basis condition to be confirmed) for 117 mph at 30 ft above plant grade.
RESPONSE
TO OPEN ITEM NO.
9 Section 3.8. 1.3. 1, item (k), and Section 3.8.4.3. 1, paragraph (c) of the FSAR describe the wind load for which Containment and other Seismic Category I structures have been designed.
The load combinations for design of Containment are give in Table 3.8. 1-2 and for other Seismic Category I structures in Section 3.8.4.3.2 of the FSAR.
Wind loads for winds faster than 117 mph have been considered in the Service Load combinations for the design of Containment (FSAR Table 3.8. 1-2) and in Hurricane Load combination for other Seismic Category I structures (FSAR Section 3.7.4.3.2, paragraph b.).
