20555 SHEARON HARRIS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT UNIT NOS.

1 AND 2 DOCKET NOS. 50-400 AND 50-401 SHNPP CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULE REVISION

Dear Mr. Denton:

Carolina Power

& Light Company (CP&L) has rescheduled completion of Shearon Harris Units 1 and 2.

Unit 1 is now planned to begin commercial operation in the spring of 1986.

This translates into an approximate six (6) month delay in the fuel load; i.e.,

from December, 1984 to approximately

June, 1985.

The construction schedule for Shearon Harris Unit 2 is presently under review, and any revised schedule for completion of Unit 2 will be announced in December, 1982.

Carolina Power

& Light Company believes that in spite of this change in our construction schedule, the present schedule for the NRC licensing review for Shear on Harris should be maintained.

The review process is well underway and proceeding rapidly toward the issuance of a draft Safety Evaluation Report (SER) and a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS).

Based on the substantial amount of work already accomplished and the level of intervention on this docket, a slowdown in the licensing review process does not seem warranted.

Carolina Power

& Light Company, therefore, requests that the present licensing review schedule be maintained.
