1 AND 2 DOCKET NOS. 50-400 AND 50-401 INSTALLATION OF ACCELEROMETER AT SHEARON HARRIS SITE

Dear Mr. Denton:

Carolina Power

& Light Company (CP8L) has decided to install free-field, strong motion monitoring instrumentation at the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant site.

This equipment will augment existing equipment and will be used in our on-going program to monitor the effects of filling the cooling water reservoir.

We will be ordering the instrumentation and performing preliminary site evaluation studies for locating the monitor(s) during the next few months.

CP&L believes that a meeting with NRC following completion of these studies (about July, 1982) and prior to actually commencing the monitoring pr ogram is necessary.

Our staff will schedule a meeting with NRC upon completion of the subject studies.
