'ear Mr. O'Reilly:

As requested by IE Bulletin 80-19, Carolina Power 6 Light Company (CPBL) is actively reviewing the design of the Reactor Protection System (RPS) for the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant (SHNPP) to determine if mercury-wetted relays are used in that system.

Our initial review indicates that no mercury-wetted relays are used in the RPS for the SHNPP, however, we have deterttdned that additional review and inquires are required.

Upon completion of this further investigation, CPGL will provide the NRC with the results of that review.
