Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

As requested in IE Bulletin 79-03A, Carolina Power

& Light Company (CP&L) has reexamined the design and records for the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant (SHNPP) and determined that no welded SA-312 or A-312, Type 300 Series Stainless Steel has been used or is planned for use in safety-related piping systems at the SHNPP.

In addition, the architect-engineer and the steel fabricating company have both been reminded of the provisions of the applicable piping specifi-cation which prohibits the use of this type of stainless steel in safety-related systems.

If you have any questions on this subject, please contact our staff.

CP&L plans no further response to this bulletin.
