SHEARON HARRIS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT UNIT NOS. 1, 2, 3, AND 4 DOCKET NOS. 50-400, 50-401,40-402, AND 50>>403 IE BULLETIN 79-28

Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

Carolina Power

& Light Company (CP&L) informed you on February 6, 1980 that Namco Model EA180 limit switches were not used in safety-related equipment provided by our NSSS vendor

/westinghouse) for the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant (SHNPP).

However, our investigation of non-NSSS equipment had not been completed.

CP&L has now completed its investigation of the use of the subject limit switches in all safety related equipment for the SHNPP.

In no case was a Namco EA180 limit switch in question sent to the construction site.

In instances where the subject switches were to be used by equipment vendors, the corrective action identified in the bulletin has been taken by the vendor prior to installation of the switch in the equipment.

CP&L intends no further response to this Bulletin.

Yours very truly, M. A. McDuffie Senior Vice President Engineering
