Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

Carolina Power

& Light Company (CP&L) has determined that the Namco Model EA180 limit switches identified in the subject IE Bulletin are not used in safety-related equipment provided by our NSSS vendor (Westinghouse) for the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant (SHNPP).

However, due to the time required for equipment vendors to respond, we have not yet completed our investigation of the use of these switches in non-NSSS equipment.

We will inform you when this investigation is completed and identify our plans for completing any required corrective action.

Yours very truly, M. A. McDuffie Senior Vice President Engineering
