SUBJECT:
CONTAINMENT PENETRATION GROUT HOLES In your letter of January 28, 1980, you stated that your staff had concluded that special precautions would be necessary to ensure proper consolidation of concrete under the larger containment penetrations.
Prudence suggested that holes be added in the bottom of each of the penetrations to facilitate insertion of vibrators.
You requested our concurrence to proceed on the basis of closure weld details utilizing ultrasonic and magnetic particle examination.
We have reviewed the information provided in your letter of January 28, 1980, and we find your interpretation and course of action regarding the closure welds, to be acceptable.
