INTEGRATED LEAK RATE TESTING SCHEDULE - SHEARON HARRIS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT, UNIT 1 (TAC NO. 77489)

By letter dated January 25, 1990, Carolina Power 8 Light Company (CP8L) submitted the results of the integrated leak rate tests (ILRT) performed during October 1989 at your Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant, Unit 1 (Harris).

Since the first ILRT did not meet the acceptance criteria for leakage, after repairs a second test was performed which successfully met the acceptance criteria.

10 CFR Part 50, Appendix J, Section III.A.6, requires you to submit your proposed testing schedule for Commission approval when one ILRT is failed.

In your January 25, 1990, letter you proposed a continuation of the normal 40 plus or minus 10 months interval.

We have reviewed your proposal to continue the normal testing schedule of 40 plus or minus 10 months interval at Harris for ILRT.

Since your first ILRT fai lure in the 1989 sequence represented no gross abnormality and was readily corrected, we find continuing the normal 40 plus or minus 10 months interval is acceptable.
