SUMMARY

TECHNICAL REPORT Gentlemen:

Carolina Power 6 Light herein submits the attached summary technical report for the evaluation of the first Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant reactor vessel capsule analysis.

The report shows that the neutron irradiation effects on the reactor vessel beltline materials are within expected levels.

Appendix H to 10CFR50 requires a summary technical report of reactor sample tests t:o be submitted within one year of capsule removal.

The first capsule was removed from the SHNPP 'core on September 4,

1988.

Therefore the attached report should have been submitted by September 4,

1989.

The additional days necessary to complete CP&L's final review and submission of the report was communicated to the NRC SHNPP Project Manager and site Resident Inspector on September 6, 1989.
