NPF-53 INADEQUATECORE COOLING INSTRUMENTATION
Dear Mr. Denton:
Carolina Power R Light Company (CPRL) hereby submits an implementation letter for the instrumentation used to detect inadequate core cooling at the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant.
This implementation letter is being submitted as required by Safety Evaluation Report (SER) License Condition No. 8 and as committed to in CPRL letter dated May 29, 1986.
The instrumentation used to detect inadequate core cooling include the following three subsystems:
(1) subcooling margin calculated by the Emergency Response Facilities Information System (ERFIS) computer, (2) core exit thermocouple system, and (3) reactor vessel level instrumentation system (RVLIS). This instrumentation has been installed and preoperational tests have been completed.
Startup tests and calibrations for which the core must be in place have also been completed.
This instrumentation is operational as required by this license condition. However, it should be noted that additional calibration data must be collected at various power levels throughout the ascension to fullpower.
