Dear Congressman Whitley:
I am pleased to respond to your letter dated July 29, 1986, which was addressed to Chairman Nunzio J. Palladino and referred to me for reply.
I appreciate your communicating the results of a resolution by the Town of Benson, North Carolina supporting the licensing of the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant and indicating the benefit of the plant to Benson and the surrounding area.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff is nearing completion of its review to ensure that the plant meets all appropriate safety, environmental, and design requirements.
