Attachment 1 provides an updated status of the Phase I components for the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant diesel generators.

REPORT This summary listing addresses as a minimum all of the items in the applicable DR/QR Component Quality Revalidation Checklist that had not been resolved when the DR/QR report was issued'PE,L~s letter of December 20, 1984 (NLS-84-490) presented the component preservice inspection results and identified the inspections to be performed subsequent to engine operations The latter inspection results are provided in CPiIL's letter of February 11, 1986 (NLS-85-464),

The TDI recommended drip system should be retained for minimizing thrust bearing wear associated with automatic fast starts.
The quantity of oil passing through the turbocharger should be at least 0.1 gph but should not exceed 0.34 gph.

Perform an eddy current test (Engine IB-SB only) on the cylinder head stud holes.
4b, Based on satisfactory liquid penetrant test inspections between stud hole and liner mating surfaces, no eddy current inspection was performed'his is in compliance with TDI OR/QR report item 5 on Page Bi Tab 02-315A ~

Studs a.
Incorporate the following into the assembly procedures:
Lubricate the cylinder head blockside threads with engine olid Torque the studs into the block to 80-120 ft-lbs.
Use the necessary lockwashers (shims) to obtain a
stud-free length of 15w + I/16<<.
6a.
Completed during initial reassembly using approved site procedures:
incorporated into approved maintenance procedures.
SHNPP utilized a 50-50 mixture of graphite and engine oil (per TDI Drawing 02-315-04) ~
b.
Perform a visual inspection of the new head studs for signs of distress.
6b, Cylinder head studs were replaced with new design studs, No signs of distress was evident at time of installation.
Additionally, on IA, no anomalies were noticed during post 200-hour inspection.

Verify that the torque loads on all connecting rod bolts are in accordance with the latest TDI recommended values.

Connecting rod bolts torqued to 1700 Ib-ft during initial reassembly, Approved site procedures specify 1700 Ib-ft to be applied in 4 increments for any subsequent work; 50-50 mixture of oil and graphite applied to threads.
e.
It is recommended that an eddy current examination be performed on ihe rod box threads and cast impressions be taken and examined to ensure the tears in the threads do not propagate.
This is to be done at the next refueling outage not to exceed 200 hours0.00231 days <br />0.0556 hours <br />3.306878e-4 weeks <br />7.61e-5 months <br /> of additional engine operation.
7e.
F AA performed eddy current examination on IA rod box threads (rods Ll, L2, L6, and L7) during post 200 hour0.00231 days <br />0.0556 hours <br />3.306878e-4 weeks <br />7.61e-5 months <br /> run inspections and concluded that indications noted correspond to those previously reported and that these indications do not exhibit proper phase angle to be considered crack Indications but rather correspond to thread crown discontinuities.
f.
It is recommended that wrist pin bushings R2B and L4B be replaced upon engine reassembly because they failed to meet acceptance criteria.
This is reported by NCR 1570 which remains open.

Verify the proper fit-up for the serrated joint of the connecting rods.
7h, A minimum contact area of 81$ was obtained; 75$ or greater is acceptable.
Approved site procedures require this check during future engine inspections.

Perform a magnetic particle test on the thread root area of all engine 1A capscrews for linear indications, 14a. Rocker arm hold down capscrews for 1A were subjected to a thread root magnetic particle test with no relevant indications noted'.
Verify proper torque loads are applied to the rocker arm capscrews by either reviewing existing documentation or performing a physical inspection.
This is to be performed on both engines.
14b. For both engines, rocker arm capscrews torqued during reassembly to 365 Ib-ft nominal per approved site procedures.
A 50-50 oil and powdered graphite mixture applied to threads.
