Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant Draft SER en Item No. 290 Based on the criteria defined in SRP 3.10, IEEE 323-1974 and 344-1975 are the standards that the applicant must follow, and a future revision to the FSAR should clearly indicate such a commitment.
Also missing from the FSAR Section 3.10 is any indication of the combined seismic and dynamic loads to be used in the qualification program.
~Res onse The SHNPP commitment to IEEE-323-1974 and IEEE-344-1975 for seismic qualification of seismic Category I electric equipment is indicated in Section 3.10.1.2.
This commitment is clarified as follows:
Seismic and dynamic qualification is considered an integral part of environmental qualification.
For equipment located in mild environment as defined in 10CFR50.49, consideration of aging aspects of environmental qualification are, as a minimum, assured by SHNPP compliance with the general quality and surveillance requirements applicable to electric equip-ment in accordance with other regulations such as
For all other electric equipment, the aging and test sequence aspects of seismic qualification are based on the requirements of IEEE-323-1974.
Additional details regarding the SHNPP commitment and methodology for environmental qualification, including consideration of the need for equipment preaging prior to seismic test will be provided in Appendix 3.11D (Compliance with NUREG-0588) in a future amendment.
Combined seismic and dynamic loads are utilized where applicable in the qualification program for electric equipment.
Additional information and detailed loads used, will be provided in accordance with Mr. G. M.
Knighton's letter to Mr. E. E. Utley dated February 2,
- 1983, regarding Additional Information for Seismic and Dynamic Qualification Review for Shearon Harris Units 1 and 2.
This information willalso be incorporated into Section 3.10.
O L
Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant 0 en Item No. 291 When complete information is provided to ensure qualification of safety-related electrical and mechanical equipment, the staff willaudit the applicant's electrical equipment qualification files.
A supplemental safety evaluation report (SSER) will be prepared after completion of the audit.
Included in that SSER will be the staff evaluation of the environmental qualification of mechanical equipment.
Documentation to substantiate environmental qualification of mechanical equipment will be reviewed by the staff separately from the electrical equipment audit.
Response
This is a confirmatory item.
The qualification program for safety related equipment at the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant is in progress.
The NRC will be informed when 85-90% of the safety related equipment has been installed, and the appropriate documentation will be provided in accordance with Mr. G.
W. Knighton's letter to Mr. E. E. Utley dated February 2, 1983,'egarding Additional Information for Seismic and Dynamic Qualification Review for Shearon Harris Units 1 and 2.
