Reference Documents or Attachment CAR-SH-CH-4 Para ra h 12;3 The referenced document reouires that the random'rockfill used in the West Auxiliary Dam and Dike shall have a gradation such that a minimum of 75X of the particles shall range in size from 1/4" to 24".
Tests coqducted in 1975 by "the Corps of Engineers, test fills VR-24-4-1 and VR-24-4-2, and recent in-place gradation:analysis of West Auxiliary'Dike random rockfill indicate that.less than 75X of the particles are in the 1/4" to 24"
- range, thus violati'ng the above referenced specification..'ecommended Action:

FCR/PW CONTINUATION SHEET RECON(ENDED ACTION:
Revise CAR-SH-CH-4, Paragraph 12.3 Materials' Random Rockfill'to read as follows:
"The rock to be used as random rockfill for the construction of Auxiliary Dam and Dike shall be random fillof fresh rock and. weathered rock as may be obtained from the excavation of general plant area structures,
- channels, spillway or cutoff trench.
The rock to be used may include sandstone, siltstone, and claystone of which a mini~
mum of 75% shall range in size from the number 10 U.S. Sieve'o 24".
The minimum gradation shall be as shown in Figure 1.
At the option of. the Owner, some'individual sieve sizes smaller than the 3/8 inch U.S.
Sieve size may be up to 5% finer than indicated on Figure 1.
The maximum ro'ck size shall not exceed a 22".average dimen-sion (90% of 2'ift thickness).'he maximum/minimum ratio shall 3:l.
The excavation operation shall be set 'up to yield a well graded random ro fill meeting the 'above requirements'
