Dear Mr. Denton:
Carolina Power tx Light Company has been informing your staff when portions of the main and auxiliary dam core trenches have been cleaned and mapped in preparation for inspection by the NRC.
Subsequent to the concurrence by the NRC that these areas contain no faults t:hat could be described as capable, as defined in Appendix A to 10CFR100, your staff has given us verbal approval to cover geologic features in these areas.
Station coordinates'or the'ain dam are from 0+00 to 15+48.
Auxiliary dam Station coordinates are from -1+60 to 39+00.
As requested by your staff, we have prepared this response that (1) summarizes those areas verbally released by your staff, (2) identifies those areas that have, to date, been cleaned and mapped and are ready for inspection by your staff, and (3) identifies when the remaining areas of the main dam and auxiliary dam core trenches will be cleaned and mapped.
