Docket Nos. 50-250 and 50-251 Environmental Qualification of Electrical Equipment Important To Safety for Nuclear Power Plants Generic Letter 84-24 Generic Letter 84-24 dated December 27, 1984 and received by Florida Power 8
Light Company on January ll, 1985, requested that FPL provide information on the status of compliance with 10 CFR 50.49, Environmental Qualification of Electrical Equipment Important to Safety for Nuclear Power Plants.
FPL has implemented an environmental qualification (EQ) program at the Turkey Point Plant for qualifying the electrical equipment defined in paragraph (b) of 10 CFR 50.49.
FPL's methodology of identifying equipment within the scope of 10 CFR 50.49, paragraph (b) was provided in FPL letter L-84-163 dated July 12, 1984.
That methodology has been reviewed by the NRC and considered acceptable.
, Certain instruments required by Regulatory Guide 1.97 are cur rently being reviewed by the
- NRC, and will be included in the EQ program subsequent to acceptance of the Regulatory Guide 1.97 report and equipment lists by the NRC staff.
FPL is pursuing a
program to ensure that equipment within the scope of 50.49 is maintained in its qualified condition.
In the July 12, 1984 letter FPL also provided justifications for continued operation for six limit switches and six flow switches on Unit 3 which were not fully qualified at the time of the submittal.
The six limit switches have been replaced.
The flow switches will be replaced during the upcoming refueling outage, scheduled to begin March 30, 1985.

FPL has reviewed IE Bulletin 82-04 and IE Information Notices 82-11, 82-52, 83-45, 84-23 and 84-44 and has determined that they are either not applicable to Turkey Point Units 3
and 4 or no action was required.
IE Information Notices 83-72, 84-47, 84-57, 84-68, and 84-78 are under review.
IE Information Notices are now reviewed under the Operating Experience Feedback Program established per TMI Task Action Plan Item I.C.5 of NUREG-0737.
