Cook Unit 1 G.J. Costello (616) 465-5901 November 4, 1992 1 of 2 MONTHLY OPERATING ACTIVITIES OCTOBER 1992 HIGHLIGHTS The unit entered the reporting period in Mode 5, cold shutdown.

The reactor was taken critical on October 25, 1992 at 2140 for the first time in cycle 13.

Low power physics testing was completed October 26, 1992 at 1605.

The first entry into Mode 1 was made on October 27, 1992 at 0327.

The turbine generator was paralleled to the grid on October 28, 1992 at 0105.

During the subsequent power increase at about 164

RTP, a turbine trip occurred followed by a reactor trip from the turbine trip.

The turbine trip was caused by the turbine thrust bearing wear detection device being out of adjustment.

The reactor was taken critical on October 28, 1992 at 1657, and Mode 1 was entered at 2042 followed by the parallel to the grid at-2342 the same day.

Reactor power was increased to 284 RTP and then reduced to remove the main turbine from service for overspeed testing.

Following the overspeed testing, the turbine generator was paralleled to the grid on October 30, 1992 at 0036 and a power increase was commenced per the power ascension program.

The unit exited this reporting period in Mode 1 at 48> RTP.

There were no challenges to the pressurizer safety valves or power operated relief valves.

Gross electrical generation for the month of October was 17930 MWH.

DETAILS 10-11-92 1640 Commenced RCS heatup.

1705 The RCS is in Mode 4.

10-17-92 0517 The RCS is in Mode 3.

10-24-92 0947 RCS is at no-load rated pressure and temperature.

10-25-92 2032 The reactor is in Mode 2.

2140 10-26-92 1605 The reactor is critical first time in cycle 13.

Low power physics testing is complete.
