NRC Augmented
Inspection
Team (AIT) comprised
of personnel
from NRC Region III and the
Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation
and
headed
by Mr. B.
L. Burgess of this
office,
on August
15 through
18,
1989, to review the circumstances
surrounding
the Unit 2 reactor trip of August
14,
1989.
This refers also to*the discussion
of our findings with Mr.
W.
G. Smith, Jr.,
and others of your staff at the
conclusion of the special
inspections
The enclosed
copy of our AIT inspection report identifies areas
examined
during the inspection.
Within these
areas,
the inspection consisted
of a
selective
examination of procedures
and representative
records,
observations,
and interviews with personnel.
No violations of
NRC requirements
were identified during the course of this
inspection.
With regard to the issues
discussed
in Paragraphs
9(a) through 9(d),
we request
that you submit, within 30 days after receipt of this letter,
a written report
describing their resolution.
In accordance
with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's
regulations,
a copy of
this letter,
the enclosed
inspection report and your response will be placed in
the
NRC Public Document
Room.
The response
directed
by thi s letter is not subject to the clearance
procedure
of the Office of Management
and Budget as required
by the Paperwork Reduction
