"Docket Nos.:

50-315 and 50-316 4 IAR 1987 Mr. John Dolan, Vice President Indiana and Michigan Electric Company c/o American Electric Power Service Corporation 1 Riverside Plaza

Columbus, Ohio 43216

Dear Mr. Dolan:

During our meeting the week of February 23, 1987 on the Control Room Design

Review, we also discussed the Indiana and Michigan Electric Company response dated September 26, 1985 (AEP:NRC:0531K) on the Safety Parameter Display System (SPDS).

We agree that the monitors are in close proximity to the reactor coolant subcooling monitors and this parameter need not appear on the SPDS as long as this proximity remains.

The IMEC response in the September 26, 1985 letter is not appropriate on the steam generator radiation and discussions at the meeting revealed a new position related to the steamline power operated relief valves.

IMEC should clarify the record on this parameter,

however, such a position may be affected by our review of the IMEC letter dated September 8,

1986 (AEP:NRC:

0678Z) regarding the PORV's.

For containment isolation, we understand additional work will be done to the control boards to indicate the isolation status.

Due to the location of this information on the control board, we believe the isolation status should be included in the SPDS.

Please advise us of your plans in this regard.

Sincerely ig B. J.
