COMPLETION OF LICENSING ACTIONS FOR GENERIC LETTER 92-08, "THERMO-LAG330-1 FIRE BARRIERS," DATED DECEMBER 17, 1992, FOR THE PALO VERDE NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION (TAC NOS. M85583, M85584 AND M85585)
Dear Mr. Levine:
By letters dated April 16 and September 27, 1993, February 7 and December 22, 1994, March 28, August 1 and December 20, 1995, July 29 and December 31, 1996, January 24, March 18, May 30, August 13, September 26, October 9 and December 24, 1997, Arizona Public Service Company (APS) responded to Generic Letter (GL) 92-08, "Thermo-Lag 330-1 Fire Barriers," dated December 17, 1992, and follow-up requests for additional information dated July 21 and December 21, 1993, September 23, December 7 and December 28, 1994, November 3, 1995, June 21, 1996, January 21 and September 11, 1997, in regard to Thermo-Lag 330-1 fire barriers installed at the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, Units 1, 2 and 3.
The NRC staff has reviewed your letters. Your responses stated that APS has resolved the issues identified in GL 92-08 and by letter dated December 24, 1997, you stated that all corrective actions for the resolution of the Thermo-Lag issues had been implemented at Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, Units 1, 2 and 3. On the basis of its review, the staff has determined that you have provided the information requested in GL 92-08 and the actions tracked by TAC Nos. M85583, M85584 and M85585 are complete.
Your December 24, 1997, letter states that the cable ampacity issues associated with Thermo-
/
Lag 330-1 are resolved for the Palo Verde units. The staff is in the process of reviewing the APS submittals concerning these issues.
The resolution of these ampacity derating issues are being treated generically and tracked by TAG No. M82809. The results ofthis'evaluation willbe provided to APS at a future date.
You should retain all documentation related to the resolution of the concerns with Thermo-Lag 330-1 fire barrier systems for future NRC audits or inspections.
