Letter dated July 28, 1994, "Transmittal of Preliminary ASP Analysis of Palo Verde Unit 2 SGTR Event" from the USNRC, to William L. Stewart, Executive Vice President, Nuclear, APS
Dear Sirs:
Subject:
Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station (PVNGS)
Unit 2 Docket No. STN 50-529 Review of Preliminary ASP Analysis of PVNGS Unit 2 SGTR Event File: 94-056-026 The USNRC submitted, in the referenced letter, the preliminary Accident Sequence Precursor (ASP) Program analysis for the steam generator tube rupture which occurred in Unit 2 on March 14, 1994.
We have reviewed the analysis and would like to provide the following comment regarding Reactor Coolant System (RCS) Depressurization on page 6 of the preliminary ASP analysis.
"The time available for depressurization and use ofthe low pressure safety injection (LPSI) system is 5 hours5.787037e-5 days <br />0.00139 hours <br />8.267196e-6 weeks <br />1.9025e-6 months <br /> instead of the 15 minutes used in the PVNGS Individual Plant Examination (IPE)."
The above comment was verbally conveyed in a conversation with the NRC staff on August 18, 1994.
Should you have any questions, please contact Scott A. Bauer at (602) 393-5978.
