Letter 161-04180-WFC/JMQ, dated September 25,
- 1991, from W. F. Conway, Executive Vice President,
Dear Sirs:
Subject:
Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station (PVNGS)
Unit 2 Docket No. STN 50-529 Process Radiation Monitor Summary Report File: 93-016-545 93-056-026 In the referenced letter, Arizona Public Service Company (APS) provided a history of the Process Radiation Monitor (PRM) RT-204 with respect to the PVNGS Unit 2 License Condition to have all elements ofthe Radiation Monitoring System operable.
In that letter, APS stated that PRM RT-204 could not be made operable and would therefore be replaced.
Additionally, APS committed to test the replacement PRM in Unit 2 in accordance with Combustion Engineering Standard Safety Analysis Report (CESSAR)
Section 14.2.12.5.5, and to submit a summary report to the NRC followingthe satisfactory completion of the testing of the PRM.
A temporary compensatory monitor was put in place until the permanent replacement was functional.
During the most recent Unit 2 refueling outage, completed in August 1993, APS replaced the PRM RT-204 with a new monitor.
The new PRM, designated RE-155D, passed a
calibration test and was evaluated through power ascension after the refueling outage to verify that the monitor readings and reactor coolant system gross activity grab samples correlated.
This acceptance testing was considered to be sufficient to meet the objective of CESSAR 14.2.12.5.5 to verify proper operation of the PRM. This letter constitutes the Unit 2 PRM summary report to close this issue.
